[previous story] Facility Dog---Higgins (shown at left with his handler Betty Miller, R.N.) will be featured tonight (Feb 6) at 10 PM on Channel 5 (KSDK)!!!! The feature is about Higgins working with children who have autism at Knights of Columbus Developmental Center at Cardinal Glennon Hospital.
Higgins, a Goldendoodle, was trained and placed by CHAMP as a Facility Dog specifically to work with children at Cardinal Glennon. Shortly after his placement in December 2007, Higgins and his partner Betty Miller, R.N., started working with children in the rehabilitation unit. The rehab unit closed, unfortunately, but we believe when one door closes another is sure to open!
Higgins and Betty are now working with children at the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center. Cathy Wilmott and Mary Maher are also certified by CHAMP to partner with Higgins during therapy sessions. Hope you are able to catch the newscast!
